Wednesday – 7th April

• UK electricity generation from low carbon sources set a new record at lunchtime on Easter Bank Holiday Monday. Briefly, wind, solar and nuclear contributed 80% of electricity generation.

• A railway station north of London has installed a walkway where energy from footsteps generates electricity to power phone chargers and a digital screen.

• A British Army site is developing a 2.3 MW solar power generation plant to power its operations.

Thursday – 8th April

• The Scottish Government has announced that total production of oil and gas for 2019 was slightly higher than 2018 and contributed more than 80% of total UK production (Scotland’s population is about 8% of total UK).

• A ‘world-first at-scale’ (almost 1 GW capacity) hydrogen fuelled power generation plant has been announced for Humberside (eastern England).

Friday – 9th April

• Free charging points for electric vehicles at UK supermarkets have provided the equivalent of 10 million miles of power.
