Wednesday – 7th April
- UK electricity generation from low carbon sources set a new record at lunchtime on Easter Bank Holiday Monday. Briefly, wind, solar and nuclear contributed 80% of electricity generation.
- A railway station north of London has installed a walkway where energy from footsteps generates electricity to power phone chargers and a digital screen.
Thursday – 8th April
- The Scottish Government has announced that total production of oil and gas for 2019 was slightly higher than 2018 and contributed more than 80% of total UK production (Scotland’s population is about 8% of total UK).
- A ‘world-first at-scale’ (almost 1 GW capacity) hydrogen fuelled power generation plant has been announced for Humberside (eastern England).
