Monday – 11th January

• The newly appointed UK Business Secretary has said that the North Sea Transition Deal will require operators to be part of meeting net-zero emissions targets.

Tuesday – 12th January

• Cold weather across the UK caused the cost of electricity to reach an all-time high. Lack of wind power and the demand for gas for heating contributed to this result.

Wednesday – 13th January

• Companies have announced plans to build the first major hydrogen hub in the UK, in North West England.

Friday – 15th January

• An article in The Conversation describes problems of the existing UK housing stock in contributing to climate change emissions and plans for more energy efficient homes to meet net zero emissions targets. It quotes the Climate Change Committee estimating a quarter of emissions come from the energy used in homes.

Saturday – 16th January

• A company has announced plans to build a small modular nuclear power station in NW Wales which will generate electricity from 2027. Plans for a major nuclear power station at the site were abandoned during 2020.
